Cats

Free ranging cats are active both, day and night, altough they tend to be slightly more active at night.
House cats have territories that vary in size. Althought they usually stay in the vicinity of their home, they can range many hundreds of meters from this central point. Cats conserve their energy by sleeping more than other animals, especially when they grow older. Cats sleeping period  varies, usually cats sleep from 12 to 16 hours.

Characteristics

Although wildcats are solitary, the social behavior of domestic cats is much more variable. Each cat in a colony holds a distinct territory, with sexually active males having the largest territories. This territories are marked by urine spraying. Between this territories there are neutral areas where cats watch and greet each other without territorial conflicts...

Cats are known for their cleanliness, spending hours licking their coats. The cat's tongue has backwards facing spines.Some cats, particularly long haired cats, occasionally regurgitate hairballs of fur that have collected in their stomachs from grooming.

Cats feed on small pray, such as rats, mice, birds, and fish. Domestic cats select food based on its temperature, smell and texture, strongly disliking chilled foods and responding more strongly to moist foods rich in amino acids, which are similar to meat.

Household cats, especially young kittens, are known for their love of play. This behavior mimics hunting and it is important for kittens to learn how to hunt.
